Ahh…the controversy…

This morning, when I was eating breakfast, I stumbled upon an interesting article from Relevant Magazine, titled: It’s Time for Christians to Start Taking Climate Change Seriously; It’s a pro-life issue. The tag on the Facebook post said, “What it means to be fully pro-life.” I quickly read through the article, which I thought was reasoned and fairly well put together. Then, I…

Hoppy Berliner Weiss

Here’s a shot of my latest offering… a “hoppy” Berliner Weiss. Though not hoppy by most standards, this is definitely out of style. This beer was only dry-hopped, as to not limit the lactobacillus souring. Probably too hoppy and not tart enough for the BJCP, but it’s just fine by me! Here are my initial impressions of the beer… First…

Bottle Share and Dreg Capture

Hey there fellow beer lovers. I am organizing a sour beer bottle share, with the intent of collecting bottle dregs to then use in a sour beer that I will brew. Here’s how it works: Gather up your favorite sour beers that contain dregs. Check if the bottles contain harvestable dregs (sacc, brett, & bacteria). See the Mad Fermentationist website for…

So, like any New Year’s resolutions, I am off to a strong start to the year. Here is my latest updates… Read the C.S. Lewis Space Trilogy I have asked several friends and found several copies of the trilogy that people were willing to loan me. I am going to borrow them form one of Miranda’s co-workers, so I have…

Brett Lager Exbeeriment

So the scientist in me is getting going and wanting to do something a bit out of the ordinary. With my foray into mix fermentations lately, I have ended up with some interesting flavors and combinations. And clearly, I am not too worried about calling it when it doesn’t work out (see coffee Porter attempt). For this next beer, I…

Upcoming Brewery Enhancements

Today I was thinking a bit about some upcoming project/upgrades I wanted to add to the brewhouse. These are pretty minor upgrades and improvements to keep things working better pre-, post-, and during fermentation. Here’s a list of the things that I want to get done soon… Build Garden Sprayer attachement for draft line cleaner. Setup a Carboy Thermowell to use with…

No Go Coffee Porter

Well guys, I kegged my Coffee Porter today and I’m afraid to say that this batch may be a dumper. There was quite a bit of astringency from the coffee extraction. I even tried adding cold brew and flavorings to balance the astringent flavors, thinking I could add those to the keg to balance it out. However, I don’t think that…

Dry-hopped 100% Brett IPA

Today I moved my 100% Brett Apricot IPA into tertiary fermentation, for a mosaic dry hop! Deep golden color, clear. Sweet malty nose, light sourness, slightly funky with subtle apricot fruit flavor. I hope to balance it out a bit with the fruity Mosaic hop.

Great Beer Quote

I heard this quote this morning on one of my beer podcasts (Beersmith) and I wanted to post it here and show my nerdiness! Fermentation is Entropy Captured There we go, its out there…I’m a nerd! Jared
