Bottle Share and Dreg Capture

Hey there fellow beer lovers. I am organizing a sour beer bottle share, with the intent of collecting bottle dregs to then use in a sour beer that I will brew. Here’s how it works: Gather up your favorite sour beers that contain dregs. Check if the bottles contain harvestable dregs (sacc, brett, & bacteria). See the Mad Fermentationist website for…

Brett Lager Exbeeriment

So the scientist in me is getting going and wanting to do something a bit out of the ordinary. With my foray into mix fermentations lately, I have ended up with some interesting flavors and combinations. And clearly, I am not too worried about calling it when it doesn’t work out (see coffee Porter attempt). For this next beer, I…

Upcoming Brewery Enhancements

Today I was thinking a bit about some upcoming project/upgrades I wanted to add to the brewhouse. These are pretty minor upgrades and improvements to keep things working better pre-, post-, and during fermentation. Here’s a list of the things that I want to get done soon… Build Garden Sprayer attachement for draft line cleaner. Setup a Carboy Thermowell to use with…

No Go Coffee Porter

Well guys, I kegged my Coffee Porter today and I’m afraid to say that this batch may be a dumper. There was quite a bit of astringency from the coffee extraction. I even tried adding cold brew and flavorings to balance the astringent flavors, thinking I could add those to the keg to balance it out. However, I don’t think that…

Dry-hopped 100% Brett IPA

Today I moved my 100% Brett Apricot IPA into tertiary fermentation, for a mosaic dry hop! Deep golden color, clear. Sweet malty nose, light sourness, slightly funky with subtle apricot fruit flavor. I hope to balance it out a bit with the fruity Mosaic hop.

New beers on tap…

I have tapped and tasted the latest offerings from King Brewing Co… Sour Apricot Saison Orval Clone Let me know if you want to come by for a taste… and more importantly to hang out with the newest member (and future brewer) in the family!

BrewingDad Updates!

I know it has been a long time, and I don’t expect that anyone is actually following by blog…however, I have finally gotten around to updating by Brewing Log/Recipes page. Check it out for the basic info on all of the beers I have brewed. I will eventually get the individual detailed brewing logs linked to each recipe…but that might…

New Beer Gun!!!

Just making up a random first post for testing and chose to briefly document my purchase of a Blichmann Engineering Beer Gun for bottling beers off of a keg. This beer gun has made bottling a dream, and taken a lot of the uncertainty out of the priming sugar and bottle bomb process. Thought I mostly still serve from the…
